Currently rowing is practiced by a lot of people in The Netherlands. In order to start rowing someone has to become member of a sportsassociation. Within this sportsassociation rowing boats are available to practice the sport. An idea developed by Planeer/Volleer to decrease the threshold for rowing is to create a rowing boat which is smaller than a single skull rowing boat , but gives the same experience as this single skull rowing boat.
The smaller rowing boat will lead to the possibility of buying your personal rowing boat, and start rowing whenever and wherever you want. Besides the innovative shape of the rowing boat the rigger principle is also changed in a sliding rigger to increase power transmission from the rower to the water.
Within this design DIDID was responsible for the materialisation phase of the hull. The concept was developed by students at the Delft University of Technology and one extra step of materialisation was necessary to make the hull producible.
